Innovative design for Domestic as well as Community Cookers for Rural and Tribal Residential School, Anganwadi and Charitable Organisation.
Solar cooker is an approved technology by MNRE is a square dish concentrator. The objective was to provide a clean and efficient substitute efficient substitute for fossi fuel cooking solutions for the midday meals cooked in the schools.
The solar parabolic cookers can be used as a supplement to conventional cooking methods that use fuel wood for cooking. The cooker works best under direct sunlight. When the sunlight is partially hindered by clouds its effectiveness is reduced. Nevertheless, under direct sunlight the performance of the cooker is remarkable. So the cooker helps in reducing dependence on gas & fire –wood considerably.
- Can cook for 50 meals (Rice, Dhal & Vegetables) in 2 hour
- Manual tracking, easy to operate.
- Maintenance free system.
Parabolic Solar Cookers
Parabolic solar cookers are shaped like parabolic satellite dishes. The dish is covered with a shiny material that makes the entire surface reflective. Sunlight comes into the dish and is reflected back up to a center focal point. A cooking vessel is placed above the reflective surface at the focal point. The concentrated UV rays reach extremely high temperatures of 500°F (260°C) – 700°F (371°C) that are capable of frying, and grilling. Because of the high temperatures, parabolic cookers can fry, grill, and even pop popcorn.
The salient features of the cooker are as below:
Community cooking:: Cooking for about 40 to 50 persons is possible. One dish may take around 1 to 2 hours depending on the type of dish and solar isolation available. The cooker, however, works nicely in areas where solar isolation is good during most part of the year. It is possible to cook two meals with the cooker in those areas.
Fast cooking: Due to high temperature and power at focal point, the cooking rate is significantly higher.
Clean & Hygiene: The food cooked by solar cooker is tasty, clean & hygienic.
Cooking of traditional food : Due to high temperature it is possible to cook almost all traditional dishes like Rice, Dal, Curry, Tadka, Vegetable including making chapatis, purees, dhosa etc.
Timing: The cooker works well between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm during the month of October to March and from 9 am to 4:30 pm during the summer months. This timing suits most of schools and anganwadis.
Multiple Uses: During the period when cooker is not in use for cooking, it can be used for hot water production.
Zero Cost Cooking: This system is totally maintenance free and works without any hassle for many years to come with Zero cooking cost.
Environment Friendly: Solar cooking helps reduce the high social, economic, and environmental costs of black shoot and fossil fuel emissions that impact all humans and environments today. In addition, reduction of CO2 and other green house gases, the solar cooker ensures a smoke free environment for the cook.
Awareness: Awareness increases in the people as Renewable Energy and Environmentally friendly cooking system.

Additional Benefits:
- It requires less water and detergent for cleaning
- With the money saved on fuel the money can be utilized for buying more vegetables and fruits for students
- With conventional cooking the bottom part of pot always gets more heat leading to a layer of over burnt food at the bottom. This is not only loss of some food, but cleaning this burnt food takes quite effort which is not the case with the solar cooker, and thus cleaning up post-cooking is much easier.
